Santa Cruz Cabrália
-17 km to the south, after crossing the João de Tiba river by ferryboat (24 hours round). Tarred road.
The "matriz" church above harbour, offers a wonderful sight over the city, the islands and mangroves of João de Tiba river, and the sea till Coroa Alta coral banks.


Porto Seguro
38 km to the south
, after Santa Cruz Cabrália. A very famous historical city, -the first one in Brazil, founded in 1500-, well-known and considered now, as one of the main northern Brazil tourism destinations.


Mogiquiçaba
15 km to the north , on the way to Belmonte. Wonderful and peaceful small fishermen village.


Belmonte
33 km to the north. Tarred road. Belmonte (Name of the city in Portugal, where Pedro Alvares Cabral, the discoverer of Brazil, was born), was until the second world war, an important exporting port for cocoa from southern Bahia, and it was a good arrival point to Minas Gerais, since the city is close to the estuary of the legendary jequitinhonha river.
This river starts near Diamantina city, and has already supplied a rather good part of diamonds and semi-precious stones, produced in Minas Gerais, since 18th century. .
 The gardens and mansions of Belmonte, built at the end of the 19th century, are famous, and witnessed the city wealth during this period.
An 'art nouveau' fountain of molten iron, manufactured in New York at earlies 1900's, still stands in one of the typical squares of the city.
Belmonte economy, nowadays, includes cocoa , and piaçava palmers works, and more and more, ecological tourism: boating in canals to Canavieiras and in mangroves close to Jequitinhonha river , and enjoying local specialities cooking (Pitús, Guaiamus, octopusy, lobsters), and famous hand-made ceramics.



Santo André
10 km to the south , by tarred road, to the ferry to Cabrália.
Sand-beaches on the banks of João de Tiba river. Santo André is now turning very famous, and today shelters several celebrities houses .
